Modern Greek has been taught since 2002 in 4 levels to 2nd and 3rd year students of classical philology. About 10 students per year attend the courses.
A fairly rich library is available.

The Center for Modern Languages operates as part of the University. P. Stavrianopoulou is responsible for the courses. The Center publishes Πιο κοντά στην Ελλάδα, a publication on literary translation. -

The Greek language has been studied in Granada since the foundation of the University in 1534. Modern Greek language and literature courses have been offered since 1981. The degree awarded is for classics.
The Department makes use of the library of the Center for Byzantine, Modern Greek and Cypriot Studies.

The Department for Greek and Slavic Philology hosts the research group “Studies in Medieval and Modern Greek Language and Culture” which is recognized by the Autonomous Government of Andalusia. It is the only research group in Spain that studies the Modern Greek language and culture. -

The Department was founded in 1942. Modern Greek and Byzantine Greek were first offered in 1987. Students are awarded a degree in classical philology (elective course: Modern Greek). After graduaton, students have the opportunity to continue with postgraduate studies in philology (Modern Greek).
The journal Fortunatae has been published since 1991. At the same time the Department started organizing the yearly event “Conferences on Modern Greek Literature”.
In 2001 the 2nd Conference of the Spanish Society for Modern Greek Studies was organized and its Proceedings were published in 2002. During the same year the publication of translations in Spanish by the Seminar for Modern Greek Literature commenced (http://webpages.ull.es/users/jorneo).
