The teaching of Modern Greek at all levels to adults and children is included in the center’s activities. There is no attendance fee. -

With the initiative of the Greek community of Krasnodar and the University of Kuban in Krasnodar and the approval of the Russian Ministry of Education the Department of Modern Greek and English Languages was founded in 1991. Its aim is to provide courses on the Greek language and culture. The department has now been upgraded to Chair for Modern Greek Philology. During the last 10 years, 60 students have graduated in Greek and English philology. Teachers appointed by the Greek Ministry of Education have been working here since 1995. The faculty also has a campus in Novorosiisk.
Studies last for 5 years. Subjects offered: Modern Greek, History of the Greek language, Greek history and culture, translation theory, phonetics, stylistics, descriptive grammar, lexicology, Commercial correspondence, Ancient Greek, History of Greek literature, methods for teaching Modern Greek, writing skills, interpretation, information technology. -

The Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies was founded in 1996. The Department’s goal is to offer Modern Greek courses and to train competent translators and interpreters.
Modern Greek is offered as a specialty along with Ancient Greek. 10-12 students are enrolled every year and the course duration is five years. Degrees awarded: B.A.: philologist, teacher of Modern Greek, Byzantine and Modern Greek philology, translator. Graduates are involved in research on Modern Greek literature mostly at university level and in the secondary schools (offering Ancient and Modern Greek courses).
The program is divided into three levels. Subjects taught at the first level: elements of Ancient Greek tradition. Subjects taught at the second level: elements of Medieval Greek tradition and in the third level: two study courses (Byzantine and Modern Greek specialization).
Students have the opportunity to continue with postgraduate courses (Byzantine and Modern Greek).
A library of 7,000 volumes is available.
Seven conferences have been organized by the Department. Publications: research and scientific projects of the Department, a series of monographs and translations of Modern Greek literary works in Russian.
The Department cooperates with Greek universities (student exchange programs) and participates in international programs as the “JASON” project of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

It has operated since 1755 offering classical language and philology courses (Ancient Greek and Latin). Modern Greek has been offered as a foreign language since 1960 (duration: 3.5 years, 3rd-9th semester). 10-12 students enroll every year and the course duration is 5 years. Students have the opportunity to continue with postgraduate studies. Degrees awarded: B.A.: philologist, teacher of Ancient Greek, Latin and classical literature. Graduates are involved in research; they also teach in universities and in the secondary education schools offering Ancient Greek and Latin courses.
A library of about 3,000 volumes is available.
There are 16 members of the academic staff, 3 of which specialize in Modern Greek: Irina Kovaleva, Anna Michailova, Natalia Nikolaou. -

The study of foreign languages is a vital part of the professional training of students. They can choose the foreign language as their second specialty and are awarded the title "historian specializing in a foreign language". Languages offered: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Modern Greek.

The Greek Section of the Moscow Pedagogic University, under its present form, has been operating since 1982. Modern Greek is offered as one of the specializations of the students. Six-eight students are enrolled every year and the course duration is 5 years. Subjects offered (among others): Greek as a foreign language, phonology, morphology, syntax, Greek history (ancient, medieval and contemporary), Ancient Greek philology and Modern Greek literature. Degrees awarded: B.A.: interpreter-translator and teacher. Graduates are trained as teachers in elementary and secondary education and translators-interpreters for various companies and institutions. A basic library, T.V., and video are available.

The University was founded in 1944. Its goal is to prepare specialized graduates in international politics and economic relations, international journalism and law, various foreign languages. University graduates work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassies of Russia abroad, the Ministry of Commerce, and various state and private institutions and international organizations.
The Department for Modern Greek has been operating since 1960. Subjects offered: Modern Greek, Translation (political, sociological, economic texts), Greek and Cypriot history and their foreign policy, their economy and state law.

The Department was founded in 1984 and was the first institution of its kind in the former USSR. Subjects are offered on the basis of the principle of the continuity of the Greek language. During the first year students learn Ancient Greek (intensive course – 16 hours per week), while during the second year they learn Modern Greek (intensive course – 14 hours per week) and continue with Byzantine Greek. They also attend classes on the ecclesiastical Slavonic language, lectures on Greek history, courses on the history of the Greek language, Modern Greek dialectology, and Greek literature.
Degrees awarded: B.A. (Modern Greek and Byzantine philology and English). Graduates are usually employed as teachers in Universities or Greek schools.
A library of about 2,000 volumes is available.
The Department is engaged in inter-university agreements with many universities (Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Crete, Aegean, Cyprus) for student exchange programs. It also participates in international projects such as the “JASON” project of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
