  The Section was founded in 1993 at the Institute of Classical Studies with the support of the Kostas and Eleni Ourani Foundation. Subjects: Ancient Greek, Byzantine and Modern Greek language, history and art, folklore, orthodox tradition, translation, oral speech. Modern Greek courses cover the 1/3 of the academic units. Students are obliged to combine the study of Modern Greek with Archaeology, Classics, Law, etc. A Magister degree is awarded to the students.
  A library of about 1,000 volumes is available.
  Modern Greek courses are also offered to adults interested in Greek culture.

  The Section of Modern Greek was founded in the mid 50s and has started operating again (after being inactive for 15 years) during the academic year 2008-2009, within the Institute of Greek and Latin Studies.
  12 students attend the first year of studies while 50 have requested to enroll to the program the following year. 40 students attend the elective course of Modern Greek language.
  A library of about 1800 volumes is available.
  Faculty: Ruzena Dostalova, a distinguished Czech papyrologist, byzantinologist and hellenist with important publications, dr. Kyriaki Chabova (Medieval and Modern Greek Literature), Kostas Tsivos (phd candidate in Modern Greek History and Tatiana Halidou (appointed by the Greek Ministry of Education).
