School of Modern Greek

In brief: The School of Modern Greek at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has operated since 1970, under the aegis of the Faculty of Philosophy. The School offers courses in Greek language and culture to foreigners and those of Greek heritage who wish to study in Greek educational institutions or, simply, learn more about Greece. Courses can be attended only by High School graduates. Various language programs are offered yearly to meet the diverse needs of the students. The School hosts hundreds of students annually from all over the world. The School of Modern Greek has a permanent teaching staff.

Target group: The programs for Modern Greek are addressed to foreigners and Greeks of the diaspora planning to study at a Greek university or to become better acquainted with Greece and its culture. The minimum requirement necessary for studying in the School is a high school diploma. Language programs for specific purposes (e.g. terminology) are offered to groups of interested scholars and professionals.

In addition, the School offers special programs to train educators who teach Greek as a second/foreign language.

Eligible categories :
a) Students selected by the Ministry of Education to enter a School of Higher Education
b) Students selected by a School for post-graduate studies
c) Students selected by a School for doctorate (Ph.D) studies
d) State scholarship holders or holders of another official authority
e) Erasmus/Socrates students
f) Anyone who may stay legally in Greece for the duration of the course and holds at least a secondary education diploma
