Byzantine letters have been studied at the University of Belfast for 25 years. The Institute of Byzantine Studies was founded in 2000. The Institute constitutes a friendly and supportive environment for its students.
Courses on Modern Greek literature and aspects of Greek civilization are also offered. Evening classes are also provided. Faculty and student research fields include: monastery texts, Byzantine studies with the help of computers, military history, etc. Faculty from other departments interested in the Middle Ages are welcome to participate in the Institute’s research projects. Postgraduate studies are also offered.
A rich library with publications of Modern Greek and Byzantine interest, some of which have been donated by Onassis, is available.
Educational trips to selected universities and organizations in Greece are organized every year during the academic year or during the summer.
