    The Lectorate was founded in 2003 with the generous donation of the Onassis Foundation, and is the only chair of Modern Greek in a state university in Argentina. It is operating within the department of foreign languages. The program has a 4-semester duration. For the first time in Argentina Modern Greek learning is certified with a degree (grades mentioned). Classes may be attended by all university students and all interested members of the local Greek community.
    The Greek Ministry of Culture offers a scholarship per year for the attendance of a Greek language seminar at the Institute for Balkan Studies (Thessaloniki).
    The Lectorate has also been established as an exam center for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek of the Centre for the Greek Language.
