It is the third university in Italy most known for its studies in humanities. Modern Greek was introduced during 2004-2005 and was integrated with the Facoltà Lettere – Corsi di Laurea specialistica in Archeologia; the teaching of Modern Greek was entrusted to Mrs Athanassia Athanassopoulou (appointed by the Greek Ministry of Education).

The Lettorato was founded in 1986. It is part of the Department of Philology and may be attended by students who take courses of Ancient Greek language and literature, and Byzantine philology. A degree in classics is awarded to students.
There is a library of about 100 volumes (apart from journals) available.

The Cattedra was founded in 1970. Students are awarded a degree in modern languages after four years of attendance.
